Our farm and the environment
Hello, we’re the Shannon family! We’ve been living on Thankerton Camp Farm, near Biggar since 1996, it’s our home and where we care for and rear our animals. Our priority is to ensure that the quality of our meat is outstanding and tastes delicious every time.
‘Us’ consists of Mum and Dad, Michael and Michelle and our eight wonderful children, Emily , Lucy , Sophie , Daisy , Matthew, Lily, Luke, and Noah.
Having a young family ourselves, we understand the importance of not only providing healthy and nutritious food as part of a well-balanced diet, but also serving flavoursome and tasty food at a reasonable price. We are also very conscious of our legacy for our children and grandchildren. To do this we have developed a very low input, low carbon, high welfare natural farming system We also have been converting, over the years, as much of our packaging etc not just to recyclable but to compostable, this part is a lot harder and more expensive than it should be but we move forward every day.
Our farm shop and butchery is located right in the heart of the farm and is open Monday to Saturday 8am to 5pm where you can enjoy a pleasant and authentic shopping experience. You can see our animals in the fields all around the shop and in the run up to Christmas you can even come and meet our Norfolk Black Turkeys that roam around the woods that surround the shop.
Our farming methods
We have developed a unique system of feeding our animals. We want happy animals and they are free to roam outside all year round and graze only on fresh natural foods, 365 days of the year. We do not feed them any manufactured meal making our meat extremely pure, healthy and full of flavour.
Our animals graze on only the highest quality fresh grass and clover in summer and in winter they graze on fresh kale with hay or silage. This 100% fresh and natural diet creates the most incredible flavoured meat and increases the amount of good oils, such as Omega 3 in the meat.
As our business has grown, so has our product range. In addition to Aberdeen Angus beef and natural grass fed lamb we provide free range pork, which we get directly from a local farm in Hawick, award winning pies and savouries made freshly on the premises every day using meat from the farm, as well as our own sausages, burgers and ready to cook meals. At Christmas we produce our own Free Range Norfolk Black Christmas Turkeys at the farm.
From the farm, directly to your doorstep
We deliver directly to your door so you have complete traceability. Our Butchers pack your order fresh on the morning of despatch in very environmentally friendly boxes that you can compost or reuse and then its dispatched on an overnight courier. See our Delivery page for prices.
We have built up a strong rapport with our customers over the years and we enjoy all of the feedback. Orders can be placed online or over the phone and you are not limited to what you see on the website , want your steak a bit thicker ? No problem pick up the phone. Our goal is to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations and we guarantee you will love your Damn Delicious meat.
